This Week’s Farm Update
There are many new rows of beautiful starts in Section 7 of the garden this week: carrots, dill, parsley, cilantro, and onions, and they’re beautiful! Herbs are coming your way soon. For our most recent farm gathering, we enjoyed Döner sandwiches – a Turkish-German street food made with flat bread and yogurt marinated chicken topped with tzatziki yogurt, cucumbers, onions, cherry tomatoes, and herb-infused olive oil thanks to our amazing garden managers: Colleen and Myron.
Our arugula has begun to flower in the most recent marine heat wave, but that hasn’t stopped us from whipping up some amazing spicy salads or chopping it up to add a peppery kick as garnish to other dishes. We’ve also been mixing up big batches of kale salad with lemon cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, shaved carrots, and homemade dressing made of apple cider vinegar, olive oil, dijon mustard, minced garlic, and pepper.
We’re happy to be hosting Izzy, a WWOOF-USA guest, for one short week. She has settled nicely into the rhythm of gardening, milking cows, and caring for chickens and helped us merge our newest compost piles after learning to use our Kobota tractor, allowing Jeremy to begin watering them down to start the compost process. We’ll continue to turn it and water it for a year, then it will be used to help replenish the nutrients in our garden beds!
